Master Program: Theoretical Philosophy at Ruhr-University Bochum & TU Dortmund University www.theoretical-philosophy.de The philosophy departments of Bochum and Dortmund (Germany) introduce a new joint MA program in Theoretical Philosophy, starting in the fall of 2021. We offer: - Comprehensive curriculum in theoretical philosophy - Research-oriented teaching in English by experts in the field, often including the authors of books and articles that are discussed in the seminars (via workshops) - Welcoming atmosphere in the metropolitan Ruhr-Area in the heart of Europe - Intellectually stimulating and vibrant academic environment with regular international guests - Program geared towards helping students produce first publications and prepare successful applications to internationally outstanding PhD-programs This 2-year program covers all major areas of theoretical philosophy, both contemporary and historical, with a strong focus on contemporary research approaching problems analytically. The program is well suited particularly to philosophy B.A. graduates who aspire to expand their philosophical knowledge. It aims to equip them with exemplary research and analytical skills to enable them to pursue a doctoral degree or careers in areas that require excellent skills in argumentation, analysis and research. The program aims to do this by providing a deeper understanding of a variety of areas of philosophy through personalized teaching, with small-group research seminar-style classes, individual supervision of the master’s thesis, and a focus on the individual development of research skills. Our advanced master’s students will be integrated into the rich workshop activities in Bochum and Dortmund, e.g., with poster presentations or talks (if suitable). We provide the opportunity to build a rich international network during the program. Applications can be submitted at any time up to July 31, 2021. Any application submitted before that date will be considered automatically. All students will be enrolled at Ruhr University Bochum, but teaching also takes place at TU Dortmund. Our webpage includes all information about the documents required for a full application. We aim for face-to-face teaching during the winter semester, but some lectures may still be realized online. Final decisions about the type of teaching will be made on the basis of the pandemic situation.
