Evolve Durham Philosophy is hosting its second symposium of the year from 10th-12th June online, this time with the aim of exploring 'Post-Colonial' perspectives in philosophy.
As always, the event will include a mix of internal and external speakers, as well as ongoing research from current undergraduates and postgraduates. Talks will include a discussion of the ethics of statues; a lecture on Frantz Fanon's philosophy of language; a lecture on Buddhist Environmental Ethics; and a student-led workshop on some of the particularities of decolonising the curriculum (see below for the full timetable of talks).
Non-Western perspectives, post-colonial philosophy and critical theory are minimally represented in the current philosophy curriculum at Durham University. We hope to at least partially offset this and increase engagement the de-colonisation movement, with this series of talks and discussions from 10th-12th June. The talks are free and we welcome anyone with an interest. We look forward to seeing you there!
