Special issue on unwanted intimate examinations
The recent edited collection Women’s birthing bodies and the Law: Unauthorised Intimate Examinations, Power and Vulnerability received much needed attention. We would like to harness this energy and use the special issue as a forum to broaden the discussion to include perspectives and issues that were not addressed in the edited collection.
Topics may include, but are not limited to:
Trans, Queer, Gay, Intersex experiences and perspectives
Children and intimate examinations
Unwanted rectal examinations in different contexts
Masculinity and intimate examinations
Global South perspectives
Intimate examinations as racism, violence, or gender-based violence
Virginity testing
Pain and shame
Teaching intimate examinations and the broader accommodation of diverse bodies
We welcome contributions on these themes and others broadly related to intimate examinations. Our aim is to provide multidisciplinary perspectives and we encourage contributions from black and minority ethnic perspectives and experiences.
