2nd Call for Abstracts What We Owe to Ourselves: A Conference on Duties to Oneself* Central European University (Vienna) October 29-30, 2021 https://whatweowetoourselves.weebly.com In recent years, the topic of duties to oneself has enjoyed renewed interest. The purpose of this conference is to bring together scholars interested in this promising area of research, and to provide a forum for the discussion of its emerging questions. Confirmed speakers: Monika Betzler (Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich) Michael Cholbi (University of Edinburgh) Yuliya Kanygina (University of Gothenburg / Central European University) Daniel Muñoz (University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill) & Nathaniel Baron-Schmitt (Freie Universtität Berlin) Connie Rosati (University of Texas at Austin) Janis Schaab (University of Groningen) In addition, we seek to select up to four speakers based on abstracts submitted for blind review. We especially encourage submissions from graduate students. The topic of duties to oneself is conceived broadly. Themes and issues may include but are not limited to: - Personal projects - Responsibility to oneself - Rights against oneself - Self-improvement - Self-knowledge - Self-other symmetry/asymmetry - Self-regarding virtues - Self-sacrifice - Self-worth Guidelines for submissions: An abstract should be approximately 1,000 words long (excluding references) and properly anonymized. Please submit the abstract by July 31st, 2021, together with a separate file containing your name, the title of your presentation, and your institutional affiliation.
