2nd ALAFI International Congress of Intercultural Philosophy
Interculturality and Ancestrality
Every Wednesday and Saturday in October, 2021
Call for papers
The University of São Paulo and the Latin American Association of Intercultural Philosophy invite everyone to participate in the 2nd International Congress of Intercultural Philosophy, to be held online. All contributions in intercultural philosophy, comparative philosophy and in all non-Western philosophical traditions are welcome. Proposals can be sent in Portuguese, Spanish and English. We remind you, for these purposes, that the communication proposals will be evaluated by a judging committee whose decision will be final and uncontestable.
Under the topic “Interculturality and Ancestrality”, we aim, on the one hand, to foster study and practice of philosophy according to a more pluralistic and inclusive conception of philosophy, which encompasses the study of non-European philosophical traditions and aims at the establishment of an intercultural dialogue between different philosophical currents. On the other hand, we aim to bring out another dimension of interculturality, which could be considered complementary to the dimension discussed in our first congress. This is because, if, at our first congress, we discussed the role that interculturality would play in the future of philosophy, this time, inspired by the adinkra do sankofa ideogram, represented by a bird that turns its head to its tail meaning "to return to the past in order to re-signify the present and build the future", in this congress the focus will be on thinking about the constitutive role of both ancestry in our understanding of interculturality in philosophy (through the recovery of the history and past of cultures and traditions that are fundamental to make a genuine intercultural philosophical dialogue possible today), and interculturality in our understanding of ancestry (insofar as, through it, we remember how the philosophical and thought traditions had their history and legacy built thanks to countless intercultural exchanges and dialogues that would be part of that same story). In this scenario, we invite participants to think together with us on the possibility of building a plural, decolonized philosophy that promotes the participation of women. In any case, the event is open to all topics within the fields mentioned above.
Participants should keep in mind that presentations should be no longer than 20 minutes, followed by 10 minutes of discussion.
